Local Transportation – Ocean City MD & Delaware Beaches

Ocean City MD Bus Transportation

The easiest way of transportation in Ocean City, MD is to ride a bus. All buses are air conditioned.

  1. Coastal Highway Transit Bus (“The Bus”) is a municipal bus that travels along Coastal Highway from South Division Street Transit Center to the North end Transit Center (144th Street). The Bus stops are located every other block along Coastal Highway. All you have to do is pull the cord inside the bus to indicate you want to get off at the next bus stop.
    The Bus operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The schedule during the summer is as follows: every 10 minutes from 6 a. m. - noon, every 5 – 7 minutes from noon – 3 a. m., and every 20 minutes from 3 a. m. – 6 a. m. During the spring and fall season the Bus travels every 15 minutes during the day (from 6 a. m. - 10 p. m.) and every 30 minutes during the night (from 10 p. m. - 6 a. m.).
    A Ride-All-Day pass allows you to ride from 6 a. m. until 6 a. m. the following day for $ 2.00. If you ride a bus more often, discount coupon books for a savings on your bus fare can help. You get 10 passes for $15.00. Bus passes and discount coupon book can be purchased in the bus. Exact fare is required, the bus driver do not give change.
  2. West Ocean City Park & Ride Shuttle is a seasonal shuttle between the South Division Street Transit Center, the Ocean City Factory Outlets and West Ocean City Park & Ride that operates from the beginning of May till middle October.
    During summer season the Park and Ride Shuttle travels every 10 minutes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. and as needed during the night. In May as well as in September and October the Shuttle runs in 15 minutes intervals from 6 a. m. – midnight.
    The fare is $ 1.00 for the shuttle service – ride all day. Discount coupon book contains 20 passes for $ 15.00. If you want to transfer to Coastal Highway Transit Bus, just deposit the Park & Ride transfer ticket and $ 1.00 to get a Ride-All-Day Ocean City pass. If you purchase a Ride-All-Day pass, you do not need a Park & Ride transfer ticket.
    Park & Ride is also a connection point for other buses to Walmart, Salisbury, Berlin, and other towns in the area.
  3. DELAWARE Bus Route - Coastal Connection from Ocean City MD to DelawareBeach Towns – DART First State (to Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach Factory Outlets). The transit center is located on 144th Street. Unlimited Ride daily pass is $2.10. If you have an Ocean City Bus Pass, you can use it to ride the Route 208 for one trip at no additional charge or purchase a DART First State Daily pass for $1.10 for unlimited riding on that day.
    The bus to Rehoboth Beach Park & Ride operates from a Memorial Day weekend (end of May) till the middle of September. Pick up a brochure in the bus to get the information about the schedule or check www.beachbus.com.
    All buses are equipped with bike racks that can carry 2 bikes. Passengers are responsible for loading and unloading. There is no additional fare for the bike.
  4. Salisbury, MD- If you want to get an US driving license, US Identification Card, or go shopping to big shopping center malls, you have to go to Salisbury, MD. The bus leaves from the West Ocean City MD Park & Ride lot, check www.shoretransit.org/schedules/Route%2021.pdf for schedules. The fare is $1.50 each time you get the bus, exact fare is required. When you get off the bus from Ocean City in Salisbury, take the Orange line (www.shoretransit.org/schedules/Route%2022%20-%20Orange.pdf) to Salisbury mall and enjoy shopping!

Bikes

Another way of transportation to and from work is to ride a bike. A bike can be purchased in Roses Department Store, Walmart or at the student center or ask for “rent a bike” in your neighborhood or from your workmates.

Make sure you ride your bike on the designed bus/bike lanes on both sides of Coastal Highway. Bicyclists must obey the same traffic laws as motorists. Obey traffic lights and stopsigns at all time and do not ride against the flow of traffic. During the evening and at night, battery operated headlights and rear reflector are required on all bicycles being used in Ocean City. Helmets are required for all bicyclists in Delaware and are recommended in Ocean City as well. It is suggested that you purchase a bike lock / chain so that you can secure your bicycle when it is unattended.

Regional Traveling – Washington DC – New York City

The easiest way unless you have a car is to use the Greyhound buses. In Ocean City MD, the Carolina Trailways Bus Terminal is located on 2nd Street. To save money on tickets, make sure you purchase your ticket at least 7 days in advance. All buses are air conditioned. Check www.greyhound.com for bus schedules and fares.

Ocean City International Student Center located at 307 Baltimore Avenue (phone # 410-289-0350) and E-point Internet Café at 1513 N Philadelphia Ave (phone # 410-289-9844) provide trips for international students to various places of interest, e. g., Washington, D. C., Niagara Falls, Six Flags. Ask for more information in person at those locations.

Another service provided by Student Centers is an Airport Shuttle to JFK International Airport, New York, or Dulles International Airport, Washington, D. C. at a reasonable price. You will be taken straight to the airport terminal you are supposed to fly from so you do not have to worry about finding it. Usually, there will be a minimum passenger requirement of 6 students to rent this transportation to a regional airport. The price will be comparable to the use of the Greyhound or Trailways bus system and afford a faster trip to your destination in more comfort.
